Description: The Manta ray, a plankton eating ray, is cartilaginous and therefore related to sharks. They have large triangular pectoral fins, large protruding head fins, and countershading coloration: dark on top and white on the belly where their gills are located. Mantas possess pale patches of color on the dorsal side as well. The head or cephalic fins help direct water with small plankton and fish into their mouths for filtration.

Fun Facts:

- Their wingspan can reach lengths of up to 23 feet across!!! Also they can weigh up to 4,400 lbs!!!

- These giant mantas can jump all the way out of the water!
