Scientific name: Myripristis Jacobus

Description: The soldierfish can grow up to 10 inches in length are usually red in color with a brown vertical bar behind it’s operculum or bony covering on the gills. They possess very large eyes and a forked tail. Soldierfish are found commonly in shallow waters but have also been seen at depths of 330 feet in the caribbean reefs. They feed at night primarily on zooplankton and fish.

- They have very large eyes in proportion to their bodies in order to see better at night when hunting for food!

- Soldier fish when stressed can be heard grunting or making clicking noises using their air-filled organ the swimbladder!
