Scientific name: Lactophrys triqueter

Description: This type of boxfish has a square-shaped body enclosed by bone. It is generally dark brown in coloration with white spots. The trunkfish has a dark pointed mouth and a small patch of honeycomb patterns on the sides of its body. They can grow up to 47 cm and live down at about 150 feet in the coral reef feeding mostly on algae and small invertebrates.

Fun Facts:

- The trunkfish blows jets of water out of its small mouth onto the seafloor to uncover prey lying just below the sediment!

- When stressed, boxfish release a toxin that can kill any fish nearby!
