Flamingo tongue snail
Scientific name: Cyphoma Gibbosum
Description: The flamingo tongue snail has a white shell with what appears to be black-lined orange spots adorning the back. The snail itself is brightly colored. They live and eat on soft corals also know as gorgonians and sea fans. They can grow to 35 mm in length and can be commonly found at depths of 42 feet in the tropics and off the coast of Brazil.
Fun Facts:
- The orange spots on the shell are actually its living tissue (Mantle) covering the real shell!
- They are brightly colored as a warning to predators since they are toxic! They get their toxins from the sea fans and sea whips they consume.
