Scientific name: Siphonophore spp.

Description: Siphonophores are grouped with other cnidarians such as corals and jellyfish. They are gelatinous and very fragile in nature. This animals works as a colony, where new parts, called zooids, arise through budding. The new zooid will work together with the existing larger organism and have their own function. Siphonophores have large and sometimes very long tentacles they use to catch prey such as small fish and crabs.

Fun Facts:

- The zooids that can feed, cannot swim while the zooids that can swim are not able to ingest food. They each have a role.

- Some siphonophores’ tentacles can reach to over 100 feet in length!
