Scientific Name: Elysia Crispata

Description: Most of the body of the lettuce sea slug is an opaque white color while the frilly curly top of its back can be green, blue and other colors. Most can be green because they have plant cells called chloroplasts living inside them. You can find this sea slug in the Caribbean reefs amongst the algae it likes to feed on and typically at depths of about 36 ft.

Fun Facts:

- The green chloroplasts found on their back allow the sea slug to do photosynthesis! Therefore, providing the sea slug with extra food its own body makes.

- It’s named after its ruffled back and green color appearing much like the green lettuce we like to eat!
