Scientific Name: Acanthemblemaria Maria

Description: Most blennies are under 5 cm long. They inhabit caribbean reefs specifically brain coral and elkhorn coral. Blennies spend all of their time in their nooks only coming out to attack prey or to battle for mates and new territory. Blennies’ distinguishing characteristic are the cirri. They are fleshy and spiny projections on the top of their heads and other parts of their body.

Fun Facts:

- The cirri are used to detect the direction of the water’s movements and the currents. Therefore, they also know from what direction their food will be coming!

- Their eyes function independently. This means they can look in two different directions at the same time!
